Concealed outlet FAQs
What is a hidden outlet?
It’s an outlet that lies flat against your wall instead of standing out behind a plastic wall plate. You paint or wallpaper the face plate so it blends in. If you have drywall, you’ll use the flush mount kit. If you have tile, stone, brick, or wood, you’ll use the surface mount kit.
How do you install these outlets?
It depends on your wall. With drywall, you nail the box to the stud during framing, snap in the mud ring after the drywall goes up, then mud, sand, and snap on the face plate. With tile, stone, or wood, you mount the box to the stud, adjust it flush once the surface goes up, snap in the trim ring, then wire the outlet and paint the face plate.
Can you replace an outlet with a flush mount outlet?
Yes, you can replace a normal outlet with a flush mount outlet if you remove the drywall around the outlet.
How do you hide outlets?
The benefit of a flush mount outlet is that it allows you to hide outlet covers anywhere you want. Once you paint it or wallpaper over it, the outlet blends into the wall.
Can you hide outlets in a kitchen island or backsplash?
Yes. You can put one in your kitchen backsplash or island and paint the face plate to match the surface around it.
