What is a flush mount outlet?
It’s an outlet that is flush with your wall instead of sticking out behind a wall plate. Once you paint the face plate to match your wall, the outlet blends in.
Is a flush mount outlet the same as a recessed outlet?
Yes. Both sit level with the wall, so the outlet nearly disappears. Learn more in our recessed outlet guide.
Can I paint the outlet cover?
Yes. The face plate snaps into the mud ring flat with the wall, and you can paint it so it matches the wall. There is a notch at the bottom lets you pop it off later if you need to service the outlet.
Does it work with a standard outlet?
Yes. The kit comes with a black Decora outlet, and it fits any standard Decora outlet if you want a different one. It uses its own back box, which nails to the stud like a regular electrical box.
When do you install a flush mount outlet?
Nail the box to the stud during framing, before the drywall goes up. Then, add the mud ring that comes with the kit. From there, mud and sand the outlet and wall. Finally, add the face plate and paint or wallpaper over the outlet to match the wall.
Can I use this kit on tile, stone, wood, or a backsplash?
This kit is made for drywall. If you have tile, stone, brick, or wood, you’ll use the surface mount outlet kit, which installs on top of the surface.
